We’re excited to congratulate the Ashburnham Police Department on launching its first-ever K9 Program!
Officer Marcus Johansson brings years of K9 handling experience to the department, along with his bloodhound, Ellie-May. Ellie-May is certified in man trailing and search operations, providing Ashburnham with a specialized resource for locating missing or endangered people.
With more than 100 miles of trails and open space—including Camp Collier, Mount Watatic, and the Mid-State Trail—Ellie-May and Officer Johansson will be a valuable resource for Ashburnham and the surrounding communities.
The Northeast Houndsmen are excited and proud to sponsor this new K9 team and support the department as they build their program.

On April 28, 2025, the Charlton Police Department proudly welcomed its newest K-9 member—Red, a bloodhound named in honor of Officer Rich Reddick. Red will serve as a single-purpose tracking dog, working closely with her handler, Officer Nicholas Harney, to assist in locating missing persons and suspects.
Red comes to Charlton from Bluegrass Bloodhounds in Kentucky, a respected breeder known for producing top-tier working dogs. Her addition to the department was made possible in part by a generous donation from the Northeast Houndsmen, which helped cover the cost of Red and the specialized equipment needed for her training.

On May 19, 2025, the Townsend Police Department proudly announced the official launch of its brand-new Bloodhound Unit! The department’s newest recruit, K-9 Ruby, has teamed up with her handler, Officer Dylan Silvestri, to begin an exciting journey in man trailing and community out reach
Ruby also hails from Bluegrass Bloodhounds in Kentucky. This initiative was made possible in part by a generous donation from the Northeast Houndsmen, which helped fund the purchase of K-9 Ruby and the specialized equipment required for her training and deployment.
